“Thomas Alleyne’s High School is a very good school with some outstanding features.” OFSTED 2008

Thomas Alleyne’s High School is a co-educational comprehensive Community School for students aged 13-18.  It is a large school – in 2009 there are over 1350 students,of whom 380 were in the Sixth Form. Most students choose to stay on into the Sixth Form at the age of sixteen. Each year students join our sixth form from other schools.

The school occupies a site between the centre of the market town of Uttoxeter and the open fields of the Dove Valley. The school buildings are in a rich variety of styles and periods and include two listed Georgian houses. Grassy areas, courtyards and recreation areas link the buildings.

We have specialist teaching rooms grouped in subject areas.  Modern facilities are available throughout the school including several information technology suites, extensive art studios, a modern drama suite, a multi-media language suite and a well-stocked library. There are currently eleven science laboratories and within the school grounds there is an environmental science centre, with a brand new purpose built laboratory, together with animal houses, livestock and poultry pens, greenhouses and gardens. In recent times building programmes have provided a new dining area, two new science laboratories, two modern RE classrooms and a student Medical Welfare Centre.

PE is an important part of school life and we are fortunate to have a gymnasium, a fitness studio, sports hall, swimming pool and extensive playing fields. In 2006 a new astro turf pitch was opened on the school site. An exciting new climbing wall was added to the sports hall in 2009, with the help of grants from Sport England.
Specialist facilities are available for music and drama. During the year these two areas make great contributions to culture within school, putting on a number of concerts and dramatic productions.

Thomas Alleyne’s has held Technology College status since 1997 and was redesignated for the fourth time as a Technology College in 2008. Whilst this has not altered our intake of students or the value we place on all areas of the curriculum, it has allowed us to renew completely our ICT rooms and to provide access to computers all around school. It has also given us the opportunity to convert a building into the JCB Centre, a design and manufacturing facility which greatly enhances the work of the technology department. In 2008 Thomas Alleynes became one of the first schools in Staffordshire to offer the prestigious International Baccalaureate and challenging pre-University course.

A hallmark of Thomas Alleyne’s High School is the quality and dedication of the whole school staff. All are important in ensuring the high standard of the service we offer and we are proud to have gained the Investor in People award and the prestigious Charter Mark Standard which confirms that we aim to provide the best possible service for pupils, parents and partners.
