Summary of the IB diploma at Thomas Alleyne's

‘In the face of general dissatisfaction with the A-level system, the IB is increasingly becoming the ‘gold standard’ qualification favoured by top schools and universities.’

Sunday Times 23rd October 2005

‘The introduction of the International Baccalaureate is an exciting development at Thomas Alleyne’s.  The IB offers the challenge and satisfaction of being able to study a range of subjects within a ‘package’ which gives credit for your achievement in different areas of school life.  It is a different and rewarding approach to the way you work. The goal at the end of it is the IB Diploma which is a qualification accepted by British universities and recognised all around the world.  The IB truly can claim to help you become a citizen of the world.’

Mrs Suzanne O’Farrell - Headteacher

The IB Diploma is a prestigious international pre-university qualification and is recognised by universities and governments throughout the world. It has been in existence for forty years and the IB programmes are offered in more than 2,300 schools in 116 countries to approximately 200,000 students. The IB has grown in size over 7 times since 1991 indicating the substantial level of interest there is in it. In June 2008 there were 159 schools in the UK offering it and by June 2009 there will be over 200 schools. In the Financial Times 2008 it referred to the Diploma Programme as ‘the only UK post 16 programme offering perfect preparation for university’.
